Choosing the Right Mechanic to Service Your Car

Tech

Your car is one of the biggest investments that you might make in your life, so it's important to make sure you maintain it properly. This includes choosing the right mechanic to service your car.

When it comes to booking your car in for a service, there are a few factors that you should consider.

Find a Shop for Your Brand of Car

Not every auto shop is well equipped to service every car, and not all cars are the same. Let's say you're sporting a nice European car. Not every shop can handle the intricacies and differences between the specific parts. If you do have a European car, you want a mechanic that has plenty of experience servicing the same make so that you are ensured the best results. For example, Anzac Automotive is well known in the North Shore of Auckland for their expertise dealing with European vehicles

Check for Qualifications

A good car mechanic will be able to check your car for a WOF, or Warrant of Fitness so that you can drive away with peace of mind. Ask your mechanic for certifications and qualifications. At the very least, they should have a National Certificate in Automotive Engineering, and also be able to show a record of ongoing training. All Bosch Car Service centers in NZ are required to have at least one “ Bosch Diagnostic Technician” – Anzac Automotive have two qualified Bosch diagnostic technicians.

Do They Offer a Warranty?

The mechanic you choose should offer a comprehensive warranty. Not all are the same, and they can vary greatly between workshops, so make sure to look around and find the best one for you. You want to find a shop that offers guarantees on their repair work. Some companies offer warranty periods as long as 12 months or 20,000 kms for products and services, such as Bosch's Nationwide Warranty.

Find a Mechanic Who Explains the Problem

Make sure your mechanic is ready and willing to show you proof of a need for repair during your car service so that you know exactly what you're paying for. You can tell a mechanic is trustworthy if he is comfortable showing you the issues and letting you watch him work. Go with a mechanic that offers promises of honesty and is willing to prove it with their actions.
